I have been a pastor for 12 years. I have received wonderful pastor appreciation gifts(a new guitar from my youth group) and some not so wonderful ones(let’s just say that none of the staff used theirs). What makes a great gift? Well, what does your pastor like? What are his/her hobbies? You wouldn’t buy everyone in your family the same gift so why would you get all your pastor’s the same thing? Here are some suggestions:
1. Have your pastor’s family over for a no pressure cook out.
2. Offer to watch their kids for free and give them money/gift certificates for dinner and a movie(Fandango link below to buy gift certificates, hint hint).
3. Find an event/concert they’ve been wanting to go to and buy tickets and gas cards.
4. How about a round of golf or a day at the spa?
5. Maybe your Sunday School class could take up a collection and give them the cash.
6. Gift certificate to their favorite store/restaurant.
7. Is there a book, CD, or movie they’ve been wanting?
8. Appliances-big screen TV, Kitchen Aid mixer, Fridge, PS3, Wii, Blu Ray player, new Computer/Mac
9. Sports gear-I cherish my Eagles and Cowboys jerseys that were given as gifts
A few more things to remember. You should really show your appreciation year round with cards, compliments, and support. Also, any gift that requires your pastor to jump through a bunch of hoops to enjoy is no good: make the reservations, hire the sitter, etc. With all of these in mind here are some links below to get you started.
