Last November, I told you about my wife and I going over to see the big reveal for ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover about 8 miles from our house. A quick disclaimer: I’m wearing a Yankees hat in that video because I lost a bet. Last night our local affiliate, ABC 45, had a behind the scenes look at 7 pm with the regular episode airing at 8 pm. I was proud to see my wife’s name listed with all the other great volunteers. The shift she worked ended up being on air for about a second(late night footings being poured). This has always been one of our favorite shows and last night was no exception. From the 2 hours, we learned so much more about the builder, the Creasey’s, and everything that goes into making this miracle happen. All I keep hearing is what an amazing family this is and they will be opening up their home for special tours to raise money for cancer research. While the house has been built and the episode has aired, we still have an opportunity to impact this wonderful family and others like them. So here’s what you can do:
1. Pray for the Creasey’s especially as Tricia continues her cancer treatments.
2. Head over to this site to make a donation to the family and get a behind the scenes DVD.
4. Nominate a Family to get an Extreme Home Makeover
5. Buy a ticket to take a tour of their home.
If you need help you can call 1-800-394-HOPE(4693). Also, check out the the official To Save a Life site, the Need Help page, and the Resource page for youth pastors, parents, and students. I believe this movie can be a wake up call to an entire generation. How can we use it in our ministries to bring understanding, awareness, and change. To quote Jake from the movie,”If you’re not going to let this change you then why are you here?” Maybe we should be that on every church door frame in the country. Again, youth pastors, this is a must see movie. After 12 years in youth ministry I can honestly tell you that it’s the real deal. Parents, take your teens to see this movie and instead of riding home in silence you should actually talk about it. Pastors, don’t let the PG-13 rating alarm you. Make your youth pastor take the teens(with parental permission of course) to see it. Better yet, take the teens and parents together. Let me know what you think.
Last week, I initiated a contest in response to Mark Batterson posting the Lion Chasers Manifesto. The challenge was to print out the Manifesto and post it in a creative place. Here’s a few of our entries so far.
Here’s Mindi’s fridge:

And Deborah’s desk

It’s not too late to enter. I’ve even created a pdf with our logo and the manifesto for you to print an put where it can inspire you daily.

So, print it out, post it, take a picture, and send it to info@chaseyourlion.com. What are you waiting for? Get to Chasing!
If you know anything about this site then you know where I got the inspiration for it. Today, Mark Batterson posted the Lion Chasers Manifesto on his site. I encourage you to print it and place it somewhere in your house, office, car where you can see it everyday. It’s an awesome reminder that we are created for so much more than we realize. Here’s my challenge: after you’ve printed and posted the manifesto take a picture of it and send it info@chaseyourlion.com. I will post them on our Facebook page and the one that is voted most creative will receive a Lion Chasers Prize Package consisting of In a Pit with a Lion on Snowy Day, Wild Goose Chase, and Primal. If you win and already have those books then you’ll get to choose some other books that will help you chase your lion. What are you waiting for?
Friday night, a group from our church attended Rob Bell’s Drops Like Stars tour stop in Charlotte, NC. I read the book last week and, for the most part, that’s what the event covers. He used some great images from the book as a backdrop and the one with the hospital hallway looming behind was a stunning visual. The event was quite interactive(I still smell the soap I opened-hey you’ll have to go see for yourself) and mind blowing as I’ve come to expect from Mr. Bell. Bonus points for getting to meet him and get some stuff signed after the event. That was a great exclamation point to what had already been an amazing week. I’ve seen all his videos and read all the books personally. He challenges my thinking(doesn’t change my thinking all the time, but he engages the brain like few authors can) and broadens my views of God’s grace and mercy. “Everything is Spiritual” should be required viewing for all humans. All his resources are below and you can also purchase them at the Books a Million link.

I’m a big fan of Rob Bell. Got to see him in Philly a few years ago for the “Gods Aren’t Angry” Tour. We are going to see him Friday in Charlotte. His teaching and writing always make me think about faith and life in a fresh way. This tour deals with the impact of suffering on creativity. I can’t wait. Come join the fun! |
